Being a Surgeon - Pediatric reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Pediatric may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. UPMC Central PA Harrisburg Hospital is now recruiting a temporary fully-trained Pediatric General Surgeon to expand clinical services in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area, effective immediately. This will be a 3-6 month assignment with the potential for permanent hire.
This is an exciting opportunity for a successful candidate to expand our pediatric surgical services in the central Pennsylvania area. In collaboration with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, UPMC Harrisburg is currently staffed with one Pediatric General Surgeon, dedicated Pediatric Anesthesiologists, Pediatric Intensivists and Pediatric Hospitalists, 24/7. Both surgeons will work to cover the UPMC Harrisburg’s in-born neonatal population (encompassing some 6,000 births), with a need to further expanded the pediatric general surgical practice in collaboration with the UPMC Central PA leadership, UPMC Central PA pediatricians, and other regional pediatricians. UPMC Harrisburg is served by two general surgical residencies, as well as by rotating surgical residents from other residencies in Central Pennsylvania.
UPMC Harrisburg recently expanded the existing 15 bed pediatric floor to include 11 additional Universal (ICU) rooms; other renovations included a fully developed child life area as well as other support services.
Clinical responsibilities will be based at UPMC Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, but will also entail educational opportunities at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The surgeons will work closely in collaboration with Pediatric Surgeons based at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and will be employed by UPMC Harrisburg.
