Surgeon - Neurology examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats disorders of the brain, spine, spinal cord, and nerves. Operates on the brain in order to relieve pressure in an intracranial hemorrhage, remove a foreign body such as a tumor, treat a wound, or relieve pain. Being a Surgeon - Neurology operates on the spine in order to free entrapped nerves, correct deformity, or restore spinal stability. Reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Additionally, Surgeon - Neurology determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. May provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice.     Brown Physicians Inc is a multi-specialty faculty practice group affiliated with the Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University.  The Division of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is seeking to hire a clinical physician who will work with an established group of sleep physicians and nurse practitioners with expertise in pulmonary and critical medicine, psychiatry and pediatrics. The candidate should be board certified/eligible in pulmonary, critical care medicine and sleep medicine.

     

    The position will involve 5 to 6 half- day sessions in the office primarily seeing adult sleep patients. The physician is expected to read the sleep studies they order and to share in reading referral studies from the three accredited adult sleep centers in the healthcare system.  

     

    Inpatient time will be on one of 7 services in the division:   the intensive care unit at one of the two teaching hospitals at Brown University, the respiratory intermediate care unit, pulmonary consult service at one of the two Brown University Hospitals, Critical care consults depending on the service needs of the division, and the interest and skill set of the individual. 

     

    The successful candidate will also engage in teaching students, housestaff and fellows in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
