Surgeon - Heart Transplant examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients with end-stage cardiac disease. Surgically replaces a diseased or damaged heart with a healthy heart. Being a Surgeon - Heart Transplant reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving the desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Heart Transplant may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. The award of tenure is based on potential for sustained contributions, performing beyond expected duties, and demonstrating leadership and innovation in activities that enhance the reputation of the University. The Clinical Scholar Track is for full-time faculty members who are heavily involved in clinical service, education, and related scholarship. This track has two career paths: Clinician-Educator concentrating on teaching and Clinician-Investigator for concentrating on research/scholarship. Significant contributions in professional and academic service are required for both paths. Job Description: Required Qualifications Education/Certification: MD, DO, or equivalent. Completion of a three-year fellowship from an accredited institution in Cardiology One- or two-year fellowship in an accredited institution in Advanced Heart Failure. ABIM Certification in Cardiovascular Disease. Work Experience: Two years in a setting of Advanced Heart-Failure, Transplant, and Mechanical Circulator Support which included: Management of patients in the clinical area of Advanced Heart Failure and in the management of Mechanical Circulatory Support systems in patients with Advance Heart Failure. Experience in managing patients with cardiac transplants. Preferred Qualifications Certification: ABIM Certification in Advance Heart Failure. Work Experience: Experience in research and teaching efforts. Job Duties Outlined: Provide in-patient and ambulatory care to patients with advanced heart failure, transplants, and those with ventricular support devices. Participate in department and health system committees and meetings as needed.
