Surgeon - Heart Transplant examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients with end-stage cardiac disease. Surgically replaces a diseased or damaged heart with a healthy heart. Being a Surgeon - Heart Transplant reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving the desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Heart Transplant may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice.     Position description

    The Division of Transplant Surgery of the University of California Davis Health in Sacramento is seeking a Board- Certified/board-eligible abdominal transplant surgeon with a focus on Kidney or Liver Transplantation. This full-time faculty position will be at the level of Assistant Professor in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X dependent upon experience and qualification. Faculty in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service. Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence, and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.

    The candidate will join the Division of Transplant Surgery of the Department of Surgery. The Division currently performs 350 kidney transplants and 60 living donor nephrectomies annually. There will also be an opportunity to participate in the growth of the newly established UNOS-approved liver transplant program if desired. Prospective candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.     Qualifications
    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    * Must possess a Medical Degree
    * Must be board certified or board eligible in Surgery
    * Strong interest in clinical outcomes and/or basic research in organ preservation, reconditioning, and modulation utilizing ex vivo machine perfusion or transplant immunology
    * Possess excellent clinical skills with the ability to perform living and deceased donor adult and pediatric kidney and liver transplantation as well as deceased donor multi-organ recovery and minimally invasive living donor nephrectomy

    Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
    • Must acquire a CA Medical License before the appointment start date
    • Be fully trained in an American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) accredited fellowship program
    Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

    * Additional training experience in Pancreas Transplantation is desirable but not necessary
