    Position Summary

    The Department of Radiology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is seeking applicants for a full-time Cardiothoracic Radiologist.  This is a faculty position that reports to the Department Chair.

    The section is a progressive, enthusiastic, and collaborative group engaged in innovation. The position includes clinical service and teaching as well as close collaboration with consulting services in Thoracic Surgery, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Thoracic Oncology, Trauma, Cardiology, Medical and Surgical Services.  Clinical responsibilities include all diagnostic aspects of thoracic imaging including chest radiography, chest and cardiac CT, dual energy CT, and chest and cardiac MRI, but do not include performance of interventional procedures. The department is developing an ACR-designated Lung Cancer Screening Program to provide a much-needed service to the New Mexico population. Additional opportunities include participation in tumor boards, multidisciplinary conferences and other interdisciplinary activities. This is a daytime position with:

    • No evening shifts
    • No overnight shifts
    • No required weekend call

    The candidate will have the opportunity to assist in other radiology subspecialties if they choose, according to their interest and expertise.

    Successful candidates must be committed to working with broadly diverse student and community populations. The candidate must be ABR board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology by contract start date and have experience in cardiothoracic radiology.  Candidates who have completed a cardiothoracic fellowship are preferred, and optimal candidates will have scholarly experience and interest.

    Research opportunities are available and encouraged. State-of-the-art translational imaging and image processing facilities are available and research is supported by dedicated research staff. 

    All faculty are responsible for mentoring and teaching diagnostic radiology residents  and medical students, in addition to educating pulmonology, internal medicine, and cardiology trainees in interdisciplinary conferences.  Most daily clinical assignments involve direct resident supervision, and all faculty contribute to resident didactic education.  Successful candidates must be committed to working with broadly diverse student and community populations.

    The Department of Radiology provides services for the UNM Hospital, a 580-bed Level 1 Trauma and Tertiary Care Center including UNM Children’s Hospital; the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center; the 71-bed Sandoval Regional Medical Center; and the 320-bed Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements for this position are as follows:

    • MD or equivalent
    • Eligible to work in the U.S.
    • ABR board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology by contract start date
    • State of New Mexico medical license (or eligibility) by contract start date
    • Cardiothoracic imaging fellowship, completed by contract start date, or comparable experience

    Preferred Qualifications for this position are as follows:

    • Previous academic and radiology teaching experience
    • Interest in scholarly activity in cardiothoracic imaging
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and learner success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
