    Position Summary:

    Participates as a member of the Student Affairs and Office of Vice Chancellor leadership teams. Leads staff personnel and payroll functions and serves as a principal consultant. Partners with Student Affairs senior leaders and HR professionals to positively impact all areas of the Student Affairs staff experience. Uses advanced professional HR concepts to provide guidance to all levels within the organization, utilizing specialized human resources expertise within area of responsibility to resolve highly complex issues. Normally receives little direction on assignments. May serve in a lead capacity, providing guidance to other Student Affairs unit human resources professionals. As the Director of Human Resources and Staff Development of Student Affairs, provides guidance to the Vice Chancellor and SA HRBP in the areas HR policy, compensation, classification, and staff development.

    The expected pay range for this recruitment is $90,500.00 - $141,000.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $90,500.00 - $169,700.00 (Annual Salary).

    Required:
    • Minimum of 5-8 total years experience in the HR profession, with at least 5 years as an advanced professional.
    • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Ability to effectively communicate (in writing and orally), engage, and partner with diverse staff, leaders, and teams.
    • Possesses advanced analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work affects other areas in Human Resources and the organization.
    • Advanced knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures including employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, training and other areas of human resources as well as organizational initiatives relating to and / or affecting human resources.
    • In-depth knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems.
    • Advanced interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to present complex information.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.
    • Demonstrated active listening and critical thinking skills. Strong analytical, active listening, and critical thinking skills.
    • Experience in HR Analytics, interpreting people data and using enterprise human resources systems to extract data.
    • Demonstrated writing skills to produce effective communications, documents, proposals, reports, and/or trainings, making adjustments to target audience level and needs.
    • Experience developing strategic, innovative, and mutually beneficial recommendations and solutions that align strategic business objectives with employment strategies.
    Preferred:
    • SHRM Certified Professional
    • Professional experience working in higher education.
    • Project management skills.
    • Knowledge University of California policies and procedures and/or the UCPath system.
    Special Conditions Required:
    • Occasionally may be asked to work evenings and/or weekends.
