    We are seeking a safety-focused Structural Ironworker to join our Seattle City Light team in South Seattle. The Structural Ironworker performs journey-level metal maintenance, repair, fabrication and installation duties.  This position will have the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging projects and participate in operations that strengthen and improve the reliable operation of Seattle City Light's hydroelectric plants. This position will report to the Structural Ironworker Crew Chief.   

    Job Responsibilities - Here is more about what you’ll be doing:  

    The Structural Ironworker performs journey-level metal maintenance, repair, fabrication and installation duties and leads other skilled craft workers whenever these areas fall within the category of Ironworker, Boilermaker, Steamfitter, Sheet Metal Worker, Plumber, or Certified Asbestos Worker.  Structural Ironworkers must make independent structural and metallurgical decisions often in hazardous circumstances at remote job sites. Structural Iron Workers must have the ability to read blueprints, estimates hours and materials needed for assigned jobs.

    • Repairs, modifies, or builds additions to large transformers.
    • Repairs and modifies fabrication of steel transmission towers.
    • Installs microwave dishes or passive reflectors, repairs supporting structures, and adjusts microwave dishes and reflectors for proper direction.
    • Installs reinforcing steel in seismic foundations under the larger transformers at major substations.
    • Custom builds electrical control panels, switch cabinets, protective enclosures for major substations, and other facilities requiring a special product.
    • Provides skilled labor to repair, replace, or modify potable water, sanitary, or fire systems in a manner consistent with building and fire codes.
    • Performs asbestos abatement and removal.
    • Welds new fabrication; replaces/repairs broken or weak welds, removes, replaces, and recontours cavitation-damaged metal in hydroelectric turbine runners.
    • On an assignment basis, serves as Journeyperson-in-charge/Crew Chief and plans, coordinates, develops, and implements project work schedules.
    • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned
     Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: 
    Four years Journey-level experience as either a Boilermaker, Ironworker, or in a Sheet Metal or Metal Trades (combination of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).
     
    Work Environment/Physical Demands
    • Required to work outside in all types of weather.
    • Required to work in remote locations for extended periods of time.
    • Exposed to hazardous materials, hot metals and materials, toxic fumes and electrically energized equipment.
    • Exposed to extreme noises.
    • Required to stand, walk or bend for extended periods of time.
    • Required to work in confined spaces and at varying heights.
     
    License, Certification and Other Requirements
    • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility. 
    • Structural Welder Certification (one inch plate minimum) attained within 12 months after appointment.
    • Asbestos Worker Certification may be required

    Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities: 
    • Experience with pipe fitting, welding, press brake, CNC plasma cutter, steel fabrication and reading spool drawings.
    • Experience working at hydroelectric generating stations and dams.

    The full salary range for this position is hourly rate $49.45 to hourly rate $54.60.
