    Statement of the Job:

    This position works in the FM Paint Shop as a campus painter and performs maintenance repairs and construction activities critical to the care and upkeep of the campus buildings. Full-time, 40 hours, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Starting pay for this position is $20.48/hr.


    Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Performs skilled painting work in assigned department operations and maintenance
    • Responds to work orders.
    • Maintains and repairs assigned equipment as needed; performs ongoing maintenance checks to determine need and ensure operational safety.
    • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
    • Paints, stains and varnishes using brushes and rollers.
    • Cleans, sands, sandblasts, scrapes, brushes and burns surfaces in preparation for painting.
    • Repairs surfaces to be painted including plastering and sheetrock finishing.
    • Erects scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
    • Mixes and matches paint.
    • Waterproofs surfaces.
    • Refinishes chairs, bookcases, desks and furniture.
    • Sets glass and applies putty.
    • Paints signs.
    • Hangs wallpaper.

    Qualifications:
    Required:
    • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
    • 3 years experience working in the Painting field.
    • Drivers license
    • Customer service principles;
    • Safety principles;
    • Equipment use and troubleshooting;
    • Basic inventory principles.
    • Performing manual labor;
    • Ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets;
    • Ability to pass required safety training;
    • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
    • Positions in this class typically require: Ability to perform physical activities that require talking, hearing, seeing and considerable and repetitive use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, climbing, lifting, bending, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Heavy work: The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Lifting and exerting forces more than 50 pounds requires assistance by other employee(s) or mechanical assistance. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, fire, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, difficult driving conditions, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
