    GS-09: $57,118.00 - $74,250.00

    GS-11: $69,107.00 - $89,835.00

    Mission Statement:

    Major Duties:

    • Plans and executes assignments associated with data collection and analysis. This may include surveys or special statistical studies related to the collection and analysis of criminal justice information.
    • Assists other personnel in performing research on problems and questions which arise during the planning and conducting of surveys. Proposes solutions and alternatives for resolving such problems by developing new or modifying existing methods.
    • Works with superiors in the planning of special compilations and surveys by proposing survey and questionnaire designs and preparing supplementary materials.
    • Formulates instructions for examination and analysis of crime returns for accuracy and completeness when involved in survey-type projects.
    • Keeps abreast of new theoretical and practical statistical developments and determines applicability of methodologies to analyze crime data in the Bureau.
    • Serves as team leader when performing surveys or special-type statistical compilations. Coordinates and directs the methodologies and statistical work, provides technical guidance, and reviews findings for technical soundness

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS

    ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS BELOW:

    A) A degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.

    OR

    B) Combination of education and experience - courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

    Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

    Specialized Experience (SE)/Requirements:

    GS-09: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

    • Conducted small/moderate surveys or statistical studies, collected and analyzed the data, and provided reports that were utilized by agencies and/or organizations
    • Researched and assisted with providing solutions or alternatives to problems encountered when planning surveys
    • Prepared schedules for completion of surveys and reviewed returns for accuracy and completeness

    GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-09 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

    • Conducted moderate surveys or statistical studies, collected and analyzed the data collected nationwide, and provided reports that were utilized by agencies and/or organizations
    • Researched and provided solutions or modified existing methods to problems encountered when planning surveys
    • Provided technical guidance and assistance in the selection of methods and reviewed findings for soundness, accuracy, and compliance


    Education

    Education may be substituted for SE as follows:

    GS-09: Applicant must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

    GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.

    All degrees must be from an accredited college or university.

    Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
