Being a Statistician works closely with other organizational groups to understand data and provide relevant, informative insights. Presents technical reports and findings to those groups. Additionally, Statistician uses knowledge of scripting and programming languages to clean, process, and analyze large data sets. Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Statistician work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     Job Objective
    The Statistician will support the Office of the Chief Data Officer (OCDO) with its core mission including the advancement of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Data Strategy.
     
    Responsibilities
    • Support the production and maintenance of multiple consolidated and agency-wide datasets, which are the single sources of truth of agency operations and performance. Additionally, support is required for a centralized business repository for metrics to include operations and maintenance.
    • Support the Agency's need to discover answers to highly complex problems using data science techniques (e.g., graph data capabilities, entity resolution, advanced statistical and mathematical techniques, etc.). For example, immigration production has many actors involved over the lifecycle of benefits, and congress has asked USCIS to describe relationships of those actors. There are internal and external needs for complex analyses, and stakeholders need to know OCDO can potentially answer questions they may have thought unanswerable.
    • Support creation and maintenance of data sets and assets to trace the effectiveness of human capital operations that support the Agency.
    • Identify and recommend tools and technologies to support the development and presentation of metrics and measures when necessary.
