Stationary Engineer operates, repairs, and maintains stationary equipment including boilers, generators, refrigeration, and turbines in buildings, plants or industrial facilities. Ensures that equipment is operating safely and within established limits. Being a Stationary Engineer conducts monitoring and failure analysis of meters, gauges and controls to determine the need for repair or replacement of parts. Performs preventative maintenance and documents completed procedures. Additionally, Stationary Engineer requires a high school diploma. Requires applicable Stationary Engineer's license for the state. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Stationary Engineer works under moderate supervision.     Job Summary

    Under direct supervision from Steam & Power V, IV, and III, perform skilled labor in the operation, maintenance and repair of high pressure steam boilers and mechanical equipment in the Heating Plant.

    Salary Rate / Pay Rate

    $26.41/hour

    Required Qualifications

    1. High school diploma or equivalent.

    2. Valid State of Illinois driver's license.

    3. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Skill in the use of various tools (hammer, pliers, screwdriver)
    2. Ability to read 2" gauges on various equipment.
    3. Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive a straight shift vehicle.
    4. Ability to climb ladders and work at heights greater than 50 feet.
    5. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Communications required in person, by telephone and over campus radio system.
    6. Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions and materials.
    7. Possess mathematical skills to calculate material lists and pricing.

    Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

    The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
