    Stationary Engineer

    FSI would like to hire a Stationary Engineer to join our team.  In addition to the hourly wage, we have health and welfare benefits to offset the cost of medical benefits.

    Job Summary

    Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as steam engines, air compressors, generators, motors, turbines, and steam boilers to provide utilities such as light, heat, or power for buildings and industrial processes.

    Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.
    • Records data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operations, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, eater levels, analysis of flue gases, voltage load and generator balance.
    • Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment.
    • Visually inspected equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
    • Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components.
    • Oils and lubricates equipment.
    • Performs water filtration tests and pours chemical additives, such as water softener, into treatment tank to prevent scale buildup and to clean boiler lines.
    • Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator’s logbook.

    Additional

    • All appropriate safety practices for working with hand and power tools.
    • Electrical, substations, refrigeration, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, ventilating systems, safe operation, and repairs.
    • OSHA safety rules, including lock out tag out.
    • Ability to:
      • Troubleshoot, repair, regulate, and control electrical, hydronic, refrigeration, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems, and portable equipment.
      • Demonstrate knowledge to safely work in a medium-high voltage substation.
      • Accurately determine time and materials required for a job.
      • Fabricate items, using hand and power tools.
      • Coordinate and work with other staff members to achieve project deadlines.
      • Read and comprehend schematics, blueprints, and shop drawings.
      • Communicate verbally and in writing.
      • Use hand and power tools in a safe manner.
      • Identify and resolve failures/alarms related to critical building equipment.
      • Capable in Microsoft Office to communicate via email, maintain plant logs, obtain information regarding operation/maintenance of facility, review training materials, etc.

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three (3)years’ experience in a healthcare or similar regulated industrial setting as a Stationary Engineer/Boiler Operator and, any combination of education and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, is qualifying.
    • A.S. degree in Mechanical Electrical Technology (MET) or Equivalent or
    • Completion of MECH Certification or
    • Completion of an accredited Apprenticeship program for Operating Engineer or
    • Documented Military Journeyman level or higher for respective trade(s) and
    • Engineers License
    • Qualified High-Pressure Boiler Operator
    • Valid Driver’s License and insurable driving record
    • Universal Refrigeration Certification EPA 608
    • BAS Training/Certification (Preferred)
    • BOC- Building Operator Certification (Preferred)
    • NFPA 70 and 70E (Preferred)
    • Knowledge of NFPA, NEC, TJC, OSHA, Local, State and Federal Code (Preferred)
