Manages patients with post-operative surgical wounds requiring packing or negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), pressure ulcers and vascular ulcers. Being an Staff Nurse - RN - Wound and Enterostomal provides support and education to patients and their families, including pre and post-operative teaching, wound care, ostomy care, and ostomy appliance maintenance/trouble-shooting. Requires a RN license and typically requires CWOCN, CWS, or CWCA certification. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Wound and Enterostomal typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Job Description & RequirementsThe WOCN serves as a clinical resource and consultant in the acute care setting to the medical staff, nursing team, other hospital and affiliate personnel and patients in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients with ostomies, wounds, fistulae, incontinence, and actual or potential skin breakdown. Utilizes the nursing process to care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients based on current evidenced practice. Functions within the scope of nursing practice as defined by the NC Board of Nursing and First Health of the Carolinas policies and procedures.
BSN required, Master’s preferred
Graduate of accredited program for Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing required.
