Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant provides direct patient care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative period. Assists surgeon during surgical procedures by positioning skin preparation, providing wound exposure, performing tissue dissection, suturing, and other surgical tasks. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant administers medications and IV treatments as necessary. Participates in discharge planning and counsels patients and caregivers on appropriate post-operative care. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR). Requires Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Surgical Institute of South Dakota, PC, a ten physician general surgery group in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is seeking a full time Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to assist our physicians in support of the Trauma and Acute Surgical Coverage Services Program at Avera McKennan Hospital.
This position is responsible for coordinating and providing care to patients admitted to the trauma and acute surgical service at Avera McKennan Hospital, providing consultative and postoperative general surgery care to patients while working in tandem with the group's on-call Physician. This position will be assigned rotating shifts which include days, evenings and weekends.
Candidates for this position must possess a minimum of two years experience in a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner role within a surgical specialty and be able to work independently. Certification and licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of South Dakota is required.
