Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant provides direct patient care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative period. Assists surgeon during surgical procedures by positioning skin preparation, providing wound exposure, performing tissue dissection, suturing, and other surgical tasks. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant administers medications and IV treatments as necessary. Participates in discharge planning and counsels patients and caregivers on appropriate post-operative care. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR). Requires Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. We currently have a client in Northampton, MA looking for a Travel RNFA - First Assist RN Registered Nurse!
Focus Staff is seeking a traveling First Assist RN to assist and work alongside a surgeon during preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care.
Contract Assignment – 13 Weeks (Temporary)
Shift: 5x8 Days

Requirements:- Motivated candidates who are looking for career growth
- AHA Current Basic Life Support certification for Health Care Providers
- BSN from accredited nursing program, and proper licensure
- Excellent communication skills with the staff, physicians, patients, and families
- Certification as a First Assist RN, certification in perioperative nursing
- Operating room experience required

Responsibilities:- Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries
- Prepare patients for surgery
- Provide patient care and support
- Administer medications
- Practice surgical procedures such as controlling bleeding and suturing incisions, draping, providing exposure, and handling tissue
- Prepare all necessary supplies
- Position and prepare the patient on the operating table
- Monitor the patient’s vital signs and heart rate
- Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare
- Perform post-operative assessments and monitoring
- Perform CPR or emergency measures if required
- All other responsibilities as needed
