Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant jobs in Evansville, IN

Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant provides direct patient care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative period. Assists surgeon during surgical procedures by positioning skin preparation, providing wound exposure, performing tissue dissection, suturing, and other surgical tasks. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant administers medications and IV treatments as necessary. Participates in discharge planning and counsels patients and caregivers on appropriate post-operative care. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR). Requires Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Staff Nurse - RN - Surgical First Assistant's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Provides direct assistance to physician in procedural areas including invasive and non-invasive techniques.
     
    Job Responsibilities
    • Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
    • Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
    • Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
    • Assists with positioning of patient utilizing stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
    • Performs job duties in accordance with guidelines and professional standards outlined by the state practice standards for the profession.
    Qualifications
    • High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire
    • A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required
    • CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) required upon hire OR
    • CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant through the the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) required upon hire OR
    • CSFA - Certified Surgical First Assistant through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required upon hire AND
    • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position
