Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management leads the coordination between care providers and plan members with the goal of maximizing member benefits while managing costs. Oversees the assessment of medical necessity of procedures and/or admissions, conducts pre-certification or authorization, and ensures compliance with established guidelines. Being a Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management assists members in appeals for denied services. Interprets benefits and guides members to choose to the appropriate providers, projects and resources. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management applies the medical and reimbursement policies within the claim adjudication process. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Nursing.     Job description:

    The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner is a Register Nurse with NPD practice judgement and expertise who influence professional role competence and growth of learners. The NPD practitioner is responsible for supporting learners within the context and framework of the Nursing Professional Development, Scope and Standards practice as approved by the American Nurses Association.

    This position works in collaboration with nursing leadership to foster and influence competency management, clinical nursing education, professional role development, policy standardization, collaborative partnerships, scientific inquiry, transition to practice and onboarding/orientation of new Hartford HealthCare colleagues.

    The practitioner is an essential member of the nursing leadership team who promotes the alignment of regional NPD and practice excellence with the HHC system as a whole.

    Role Responsibilities:

    • Uses the educational design process and adult learning principles to bridge the knowledge, skills and/or practice gaps identified through learning needs assessment and evaluation of outcomes.
    • Collaborates with members of the nursing leadership team to assess learning needs, develops programs, monitors clinical competency and supports action plans. Represents nursing in the development of inter-professional learning activities.
    • Promotes professional nursing practice and quality patient care according to the ANA standards of practice. Endorses the theory-based approach through the continuum of practice from novice to expert.
    • Advances the profession of nursing and the NPD specialty by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting the ongoing professional learning as individuals develop across practice, professional and educational settings.
    • Develops, facilitates, conducts and evaluates programs during the onboarding phase and when changes in roles, responsibilities and practice occur.
    • Works to transform processes at micro, meso and/or macro system levels. Uses change management strategies and theories to drive desired outcomes.
    • Promotes a spirit of inquiry, the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to advance NPD practice, guide clinical practice and improve the quality of care for the healthcare consumer/partner.
    • Utilizes tools to capture knowledge, skill, ability judgment and performance during the situational or dynamic phases of practice (i.e. initial and ongoing competencies).

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience. At least 1 year of experience in an acute care environment. Experience as a preceptor.
    • One year of relevant teaching experience preferred, nursing professional development and/or specialty area preferred.
    • Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH obtained prior to hire date.
    • NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification within two years of hire hire/transfer
    • BLS required.
    • NPD Specialty certification.

    • Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver and evaluate educational programs.
    • Working knowledge of high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to education as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services.
    • Knowledge of the principles/theories of adult learning.
    • Knowledge of unit based orientation plans.
    • Strong skills in the process of educational needs assessments.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and strong skills in excel.
