Staff Nurse - RN - Psychiatric Unit provides professional nursing care to assigned patients with varying levels of mental health disorders and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities, including outpatients and psychiatric inpatients. Works as part of an interdisciplinary medical team to evaluate patients and develop treatment plans. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Psychiatric Unit administers medications, monitors patient progress, and records observations in patient medical records. Promotes patients' independence by teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Psychiatric Unit may supervise lower-level nurses. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Inpatient Medical/Psychiatric Unit
SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse (RN), provides age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintains a safe environment, educates patients and their families about healthy practices and treatment modalities, assures continuity of care, coordinates care across settings and among caregivers, manages information, communicates effectively, and utilizes technology. Utilizes the nursing process to provide and plan care (i.e. assessment, nurse diagnosis, planning and coordination, implementation, and evaluation). Additional roles include advocacy, performance improvement, leadership, problem solving, delegation, conflict resolution, and team player.
