Job Summary
Conducts the surveillance of nosocomial and reportable infections; collects and records pertinent data for statistical reporting and control purposes. In collaboration with the designated physician, serves as resource consultant to patient care units and hospital departments in the appropriate techniques related to prevention, response to and treatment of infections. Under the guidance of the Administrative Director of Quality Management, carries out the design, development, implementation and monitoring of infection control policies and procedures to prevent and control the spread of infections amongst patients, personnel and visitors. Analyzes data, identifying trends; develops and communicates infection control reports to appropriate committees and departments. Develops and provides education to hospital personnel through orientation, annual programs and required in-services.

2. Knowledge of pertinent regulatory, accrediting and advisory body requirements including state and county regulations, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Work Experience
Three years of management/supervisory experience required. Strong background in infection control surveillance in a health care setting.
License/Registration/Certification
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas.
Certified Infection Control (CIC) required or obtained within two years.
Education and Training
Bachelor degree in Nursing required. Master degree preferred.
Completed “The Fundamentals of Surveillance, Prevention, & Control of Health Care Acquired Infections” offered by the Association of Professional in Infection Control Epidemiology or similar coursework.
