    SUMMARY: The Director, Child Development Center is responsible for oversees operations and ensures the delivery of high-quality early childhood care and education for children ages 6 weeks-12 years at the Woodland Park location. The Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the center’s early care and preschool program, ensures proper staffing, manages budgetary requirements, and maintains compliance in accordance with Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) childcare licensing.


    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Create a learning community for Child Development Center children that promotes optimal child development and partnership with families
    • Under the direction of the Senior Director, collaborate to manage the center’s finances, work within an approved budget, and oversee the processing of timecards in a timely manner
    • Oversee the quality and fidelity to procedures for site recruitment, selection, orientation, training of personnel, and corrective action plans when necessary
    • Directly oversee and supervise the site leadership team, or other personnel as assigned
    • Hold monthly staff meetings, and oversee the staffing schedule to ensure reliable teams and in-ratio coverage in all classrooms
    • Model, coach, train, etc. direct service staff as needed, including modeling appropriate classroom strategies with children, teaching new classroom strategies, etc.
    • Assist in data collection for grants in pursuit of the center’s mission to provide reliable, high-quality early childhood care and education to the families in our community
    • Oversee the quality and fidelity to procedures for annual performance reviews and maintain a program for staff professional development that affirms the center’s values and promotes a shared vision
    • Directly oversee annual performance reviews and professional development for Child Development Center leadership team
    • Maintain compliance with accreditation and state licensing requirements as well as all applicable state and federal laws, and Boys & Girls Clubs policies and procedures
    • Work closely with the Senior Director to ensure that center policies and practices are aligned with the Boys & Girls Clubs Alaska strategic goals and mission
    • Maintain fluent knowledge of learning theories and create policies to develop curricula that conform to current understandings of early childhood development
    • Build, establish and maintain positive relationships in the community that support a diverse student population and reflect the vision and mission of the center
    • Uphold the center’s standards of conduct and set the example by consistently modeling professionalism, patience, and empathy when interacting with children, parents, and members of the community
    • Establish partnerships with staff, family members, all departments, and community representatives to design and improve services for children and their families
    • Collaborate with site leadership and the Senior Director to manage change at the center and establish systems to monitor and evaluate the performance of staff and programs
    • Comprehensive knowledge of national and state education standards, OEC licensing requirements and procedures, and fire, health, and OSHA regulations

    Requirements

    SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

    Must meet or exceed all staff qualifications for Center Administrator per MOA licensing regulations including:

    • Must be at least 21 years of age 
    • Must have the management and supervisory skills and experience necessary to select and supervise personnel, including delegation of responsibility and motivation of staff
    • Must have at minimum 12 semester hours of college credit in early childhood development, child development, child psychology, or the equivalent, or hold a current CDA credential or Montessori Certificate
    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Early Childhood Education or a closely related degree from an accredited college or university, three years previous experience as a center director or assistant director, or equivalent combination of education and training 
    • Have sufficient experience, generally acquired through at least 5 years of early childhood education work, to professionally care for and understand the development of children from birth through age 12
    • Demonstrated skills in departmental or business finance and program evaluation

    In addition to the above CCA qualifications:

    • 5 years’ experience in personnel supervision and ability to train, inspire and motivate staff 
    • Spanish/English Bilingual preferred
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated problem analysis and resolution at both a strategic and functional level
    • Ability to maintain current First Aid and CPR certification
    • Ability to relate to young children and to maintain good relations with peers and parents
    • Proficiency with a PC and Google and Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel required, experience with a child care software system such as Procare preferred
    • Ability to deal effectively with children and families, including discipline problems and at-risk youth
    • Must have valid Alaska driver’s license, current motor vehicle insurance and a reliable vehicle
    • Ability to achieve and maintain first aid and CPR certification
    • Must pass a name-based and fingerprint criminal records background check
    • Must have a valid bank account for payroll direct deposit
