Speech and Language Pathologist assesses and treats speech and language disorders and impairments. Conducts evaluations of an individual's speech and language skills using applicable diagnostic materials and tools. Being a Speech and Language Pathologist develops treatment plans that utilize appropriate intervention approaches, strategies, and materials. Establishes treatment priorities that include advising, educating, and counseling. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathologist completes required documentation to record assessment and progress. Collaborates with physicians, family members, and other clinical providers to provide effective therapies. May direct support staff in assisting with treatment. Requires a master's degree in speech pathology. Requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty.     The Children's Guild is seeking an experienced Speech and Language Pathologist to provide speech and language services to children who demonstrate a functional inability to perform in an educational environment. The SLP will provide push-in and pull-out services based on the needs of the student and the services prescribed in the individualized education plan. The SLP will develop, implement, and track progress on each student's IEP on their caseload. The SLP may also have to complete speech assessments or work with another SLP to conduct assessments.

     

    Summary

    To provide diagnostic and therapeutic services relative to communicative skills to children enrolled in the Guild school program as determined appropriate by the Speech-Language Pathologist and the IEP Team; to collaborate with teaching teams, primary caregivers, and other professionals to meet the child's communicative needs, and to foster understanding about communication in general.
    To fulfill the IEP requirements of the assigned students in the terms set forth by the IEP and in compliance with all applicable COMAR regulations.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide and document speech and language pathology services using online systems.

    • Developing, implementing, and tracking progress on an individualized education plan.

    • Participate in IEP meetings, including annual reviews, eligibilities, 30/45 day reviews, and parent requested meetings.

    • Complete quarterly progress reports for students receiving SLP services.

    • Conduct assessments on students or collaborate with another speech provider to complete SLP assessments for eligibility.

    • Observe, document data, and request services for students who may be eligible or need SLP support.

    • Participate in school-based meetings, including related services meetings and classroom team primacies.

    • Developing relationships and working collaboratively with administrators, school staff, parents/families, and community partners to create effective systems of prevention and supports to meet the individualized needs of children.

    • Engaging school leaders in conversations about supporting children and families' developmental and learning needs through data-informed, evidence-based practices.

    • Conducting classroom observations and providing recommendations and consulting to teachers/families to improve communication strategies and supports.

    • Being comfortable and open to having conversations about areas of strength and areas for improvement; being solutions-focused, positive, reflective, and respectfully transparent with teachers, school leaders, colleagues, and supervisors

    • Providing professional development to peers, school leaders, and school staff.

    • Efficiency in documenting in electronic health records and school-based electronic platforms.

    • Assume other duties as assigned.

    Competencies

    To perform the job successfully, an individual will retain accountability for the following Key Result Areas (KRAs).


    Key Result Area #1: Documentation

    1. Timely development, collaboration, and writing of IEPs

    2. Timely completion of quarterly progress reports for each student within their IEP

    3. Completing accurate and timely service notes and service trackers

    Key Result Area # 2: Service

    1. Providing services as mandated in each students IEP

    2. Consulting with classroom staff regarding student services and interventions to assist with student success.

    Key Result Area # 3: Communication

    1. Collaboration with the IEP Team

    2. Communicating with parents/guardians about student progress and interventions to assist student success and completing documentation of communication services in the electronic record and/or school databases.

    3. Providing discipline-specific expertise through collaboration with other team members, including classroom staff.

    4. Maintain open lines of communication with supervisor and keep supervisor updated.

    Key Result Area # 4: Professional Growth

    1. Participate in school-based professional development and orientation training.

    2. Complete annual training required by the organization and regulatory bodies.

    3. Attend external training, webinars, and/or courses to maintain licensure.

    4. Participate in supervision sessions and school meetings.

     

    Qualifications


    Education and/or Experience

    Possession of a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Science Disorders from an accredited institution. A minimum of one (l) year full-time post-masters speech-language experience working with children is preferred.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    1. Possess a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or eligible for certification.

    2. Possess a license in Speech-Language Pathology from the Maryland State Board of Examiners in AUD/HAD/SLP or eligible for certification.

    3. Certified in or eligible for certification in crisis management.

    4. Certified in or eligible for certification in CPR/First Aid.
