    Schedule: Seasonal Temporary 40 hours per week, 3-day weekends weather permitting

    Education/Experience/Training/Certifications:

    Ø Must be at least 18 years old at time of start date.

    Ø Ability to obtain Montana Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicators License.

    Ø Valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Montana. Copy must be submitted with application.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Weed and Mosquito Control Sprayer/Operator (Sprayer/Operator) for the Cascade County Public Works Department must successfully pass the Department of Agriculture Government License Exam, perform semi-skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of equipment, mix, handle and apply pesticides according to manufacturer/label specifications and instructions, accurately maintain detailed records of work activities and chemical applications, attend training sessions, report equipment failures and problems to supervisor, operate various equipment including, trucks, ATVs, sprayers, push and riding lawn mowers, weedwhackers and two-way radios, ensure proper use of safety equipment and perform other related duties as required or assigned.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Working knowledge of sprayers, trucks and mowing equipment, perform mathematical computations, i.e.: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and some algebra, operate County vehicles and equipment including, 4WD trucks, ATV’s, riding and push mowers and pulling trailers, mix, handle and apply pesticides according to manufacturer/label specifications and instructions, maintain accurate record keeping of all inspections and pesticide applications, working knowledge of map reading, GPS/GIS/navigation equipment and associated software, traverse a wide range of physical conditions that include walking long distances, steep and challenging terrain, muddy, wet and slippery footing, identify noxious and non-noxious weed species and other native vegetation, mosquito sources, larva, and adults from other aquatic and terrestrial insects and other animals, operate specialized chemical application equipment, lift up to 50 pounds, follow verbal and written instructions, work as a team member or independently as required, work flexible hours and overtime when requested, perform other duties as required or assigned.

    Knowledge and understanding of:

    Spraying equipment and trucks,safety rules, procedures and practices,map reading, GPS/GIS equipment and associated software,principles of noxious weed identification and control,mixing, handling and applying pesticides according to manufacturer/label specifications and instructions,identification and control of vector and nuisance mosquito species,principles of Integrated Pest Management.

    Skills in:

    Map reading and accurate recording of all inspections and pesticide applications,performing mathematical computations, i.e.: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and some algebra, basic computer use and data entry,effective and professional communication with co-workers, supervisors and the general public, customer service.

    Ability to:

    Operate specialized chemical application equipment, lift up to 50 pounds, communicate in a professional and effective manner with others both orally and in writing,maintain strict standards of confidentiality,interpret and apply laws, policies and procedures,review and comprehend written materials,follow verbal and written instructions, pay attention to detail and accuracy, observe established lines of authority, exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills within established standards, policies and procedures, deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events, observe assigned work hours an demonstrate punctuality, work independently and as a team member with minimal supervision, identify problems that adversely affect the organization and its functions and offer positive suggestions for improvements, interact with the public or other employees in a professional, respectful and courteous manner, interact with challenging individuals and display sound judgment under stressful situations, accept responsibility and be self-motivated.

    The successful applicant shall serve a 6-month probationary period and will have a criminal background check conducted. The results thereof may disqualify the applicant from consideration for employment with the County.
