Specialty Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense high dollar/specialty medications (e.g. Oncology, Multiple Sclerosis). Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Specialty Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Additionally, Specialty Pharmacy Technician requires a high school diploma. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician works under moderate supervision. Position Purpose:
The Pharmacy Technician's role is often the driving force behind successful pharmacies. The Technician's main duty is to process and fill prescriptions. The Technician will also arrange the pharmacy environment for business operations by turning on the equipment such as computers. printers, and scales; greet customers; measure and label medication; help process payment; help control inventory and stock shelves; and enter data into a computerized system. The Technician will work directly with a Dispensing Pharmacist and Operations Manager to provide excellent customer service.
