Specialty Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense high dollar/specialty medications (e.g. Oncology, Multiple Sclerosis). Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Specialty Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Additionally, Specialty Pharmacy Technician requires a high school diploma. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician works under moderate supervision. POSITION SUMMARY
A Specialty Pharmacy Technician provides support for all employees within the specialty case management department. They maintain and update specialty pharmacy patient records to meet accreditation requirements and provide patient-centered care. They will perform administrative and pharmacy technician activities related to specialty patients in compliance with Genesis Health Care rules, regulations and guidelines.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
· High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to speak read, write and understand English.
· Pharmacy Technician license
· State Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred
Professional
· “Skilled” business office experience.
· Communication, customer service or working with the general public, preferably in a medical care facility.
· General computer competence including basic Word and potential to be trained on specific software for patient information, billing and communication.
· Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Physical/Environmental
· Ability to interact with computer screen for up to six hours at a time (visual acuity required).
· Must have manual dexterity for use of keyboard. Ability to remain stationary for periods of up to four hours. Ability to communicate via phone, mail and in person to resolve disputes, solve problems, etc.
· Capacity to function in a sometimes stressful, multi-tasking environment
