Specialty Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense high dollar/specialty medications (e.g. Oncology, Multiple Sclerosis). Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Specialty Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Additionally, Specialty Pharmacy Technician requires a high school diploma. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician works under moderate supervision.     POSITION SUMMARY

    A Specialty Pharmacy Technician provides support for all employees within the specialty case management department. They maintain and update specialty pharmacy patient records to meet accreditation requirements and provide patient-centered care. They will perform administrative and pharmacy technician activities related to specialty patients in compliance with Genesis Health Care rules, regulations and guidelines.

    PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Responsible for ensuring all documentation and assessments are completed for specialty pharmacy patients.
    • Responsible for various reports and scheduled tasks as assigned by manager.
    • Provide support and administrative assistance to the staff and providers of specialty case management.
    • Stay informed on all URAC standards and related updates for active GHC URAC accreditations.

    Operational Excellence

    • Ensure and uphold the confidentially requirements of all patient records and manage all daily task and activities consistent with HIPAA, state and federal laws and regulations, as well as the clinic’s policies and regulations regarding confidentiality and security.

    • Develop and ensure effective, positive relationships within and among the specialty clinic staff, as well as with patients, vendors, contractors, and related resources.

    PRIMARY TASKS & DUTIES

    • Greet all specialty patients appropriately and collect pertinent demographic and billing information.
    • Responsible for entering specialty patient demographics accurately and completely into the EMR and pharmacy system.
    • Ensure all required paperwork and pharmacy assessments are completed before fulfilling specialty orders.
    • Educate specialty patients on services offered by Genesis Healthcare.
    • Assist patients with the acquisition of specialty medication.
    • Answer incoming specialty pharmacy calls and provide excellent patient care.
    • Completes administrative assistant tasks as assigned by the Specialty mid-level and/or Specialty Pharmacist.
    • Participate in meetings and all trainings, as required, for URAC Accreditation.
    • Maintains current knowledge of URAC Standards and all policies and procedures related to case management, disease management, and specialty pharmacy accreditation.
    • Schedules and confirms medication refills for specialty pharmacy patients.
    • Complete refill reminder calls and document all required information for review by the specialty pharmacy.
    • Fulfills specialty medication orders for verification by the specialty pharmacist.
    • Package orders for delivery by courier or by mail.
    • Assists the specialty pharmacist with prior authorizations through CoverMyMeds for specialty medications.
    • Performs inventory cycle counts on specialty pharmacy inventory.[SB1]

    • Utilize a wide variety of office technology and tools to collect, enter, process, file patient records and documentation.
    • Be knowledgeable of all administrative aspects related to case management and disease management department.
    • Have a patient first attitude and good attention to detail for our specialty patients that have more complex diseases or conditions.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Education

    · High School diploma or equivalent. Must be able to speak read, write and understand English.

    · Pharmacy Technician license

    · State Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred

    Professional

    · “Skilled” business office experience.

    · Communication, customer service or working with the general public, preferably in a medical care facility.

    · General computer competence including basic Word and potential to be trained on specific software for patient information, billing and communication.

    · Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

    Physical/Environmental

    · Ability to interact with computer screen for up to six hours at a time (visual acuity required).

    · Must have manual dexterity for use of keyboard. Ability to remain stationary for periods of up to four hours. Ability to communicate via phone, mail and in person to resolve disputes, solve problems, etc.

    · Capacity to function in a sometimes stressful, multi-tasking environment
