Specialty Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense high dollar/specialty medications (e.g. Oncology, Multiple Sclerosis). Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Specialty Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Additionally, Specialty Pharmacy Technician requires a high school diploma. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician works under moderate supervision. - Enter patients into the dispensing software including patient’s insurance information; enter prescription orders and ancillary supply orders into the dispensing software and fill prescription and supplies.
-Inventory Management
-Monitor pharmacy refrigerator and freezer
-Maintain continuing education and knowledge in the following areas:
o Safety
o Hazardous substances
o Medication safety
o Patient confidentiality
o Medication Errors
-Non sterile compounding including topical preparations, solutions, suspension, suppositories, troches, sublingual tablets, capsules
-Prioritize Compounding orders
-Compounding Record maintenance
-Compounding Equipment Maintenance
-The main duty will be non-sterile compounding but will also include prescription order entry and filling, checking patients' insurance eligibility and any other duties assigned by the Pharmacist-in-Charge for the efficient operation of the pharmacy.
-The position is full time between 32-40 hours per week with possible overtime
