Specialty Pharmacy Technician assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense high dollar/specialty medications (e.g. Oncology, Multiple Sclerosis). Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Being a Specialty Pharmacy Technician receives and stocks incoming supplies. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Additionally, Specialty Pharmacy Technician requires a high school diploma. May require Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician works under moderate supervision. Work in conjunction with Specialty Clinical Pharmacists as part of a highly skilled medication therapy management team to provide comprehensive and individualized patient care in a broad range of disease states. Ensure a high level of customer service through speaking with customers on inbound and outbound calls and occasional direct patient contact, monitoring and improving medication adherence. May assist in preparing and dispensing medications and supplies, receive patient prescriptions, review medication list with patient, answer phones and triage patient phone calls to pharmacist as necessary, and help maintain the pharmacy in proper order. Work together with specialty pharmacy staff to develop analytic reports and dashboards required for URAC, ACHC, and any other specialty pharmacy accreditation.
