Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef in the daily kitchen operations including menu development, purchasing, inventory, cost control, and sanitation. Oversees the activities of the kitchen staff and monitors food production and presentation. Being a Sous Chef resolves operational issues. Performs quality checks on ingredients and prepared dishes. Additionally, Sous Chef complies with all safety and food sanitation laws and regulations. Supervises, trains, and mentors staff. May require an associate degree in culinary arts or equivalent. Typically reports to an executive chef. The Sous Chef supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Sous Chef typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. A successful Tutta Bella Sous Chef will lead by example, communicate effectively kitchen staff and restaurant management. The Sous Chef will live our values and remove barriers, real or perceived, to the accomplishment of our goals and the daily fulfillment of our purpose for all kitchen staff. They will also effectively collaborate with their Head Chef, their General Manager and Restaurant Managers, Back-of-House Leads, and other team members. It is important to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks while continuing to focus on details, not let the urgent overshadow the important, exhibit a positive outlook, and hold others and oneself accountable.

Sous Chefs are regularly required to work during any hours of operation, generally between 7 AM and 12 AM. It also requires regular work on weekends and holidays. This position requires working outdoors in various temperatures. Work is also regularly performed near and around sharp and potentially hazardous equipment including pizza ovens, deli slicers and large volume mixers.
