Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef in the daily kitchen operations including menu development, purchasing, inventory, cost control, and sanitation. Oversees the activities of the kitchen staff and monitors food production and presentation. Being a Sous Chef resolves operational issues. Performs quality checks on ingredients and prepared dishes. Additionally, Sous Chef complies with all safety and food sanitation laws and regulations. Supervises, trains, and mentors staff. May require an associate degree in culinary arts or equivalent. Typically reports to an executive chef. The Sous Chef supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Sous Chef typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
• Completion of certified culinary arts training program preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years food service experience with progressively increasing responsibility, with at least 1-year supervisory experience preferred.
• Previous experience in both restaurant and senior living settings preferred.
• Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a multiple dining venue setting preferred.
• Has a strong understanding of dining room operations.
• Must have demonstrated ability to create and implement menus that include variety, interest, and appeal, while also meeting the nutritional needs of the senior population
• Has a demonstrated understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
• Must have a strong commitment to customer service and desire to exceed customer expectations.
• Must be able to read, comprehend, write, and speak English to interpret menus and recipes and to communicate effectively with residents, families, other team members and vendors.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Must be detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills.
• Must meet all health-related and/or food handling requirements pertaining to local or state regulatory agencies.
• Must maintain current CPR/First Aid credentials

Essential Functions:
Sous Chef | Chef | Cook - Lead
• Supports Director of Signature Dining in creating and monitoring kitchen team member schedules and makes daily task assignments to ensure efficient and effective meal preparation, service, and clean-up.
• Supports Director of Signature Dining with maintaining department within budgetary guidelines.
• Maintains knowledge base of current OSHA, and local and state regulatory agency guidelines and ensures that kitchen and food service program maintain regulatory compliance.
• Responsible for training, directing all kitchen team members during a shift.
• When necessary, fills in for the Director of Signature Dining
• Assists Dining Room Manager with Serving team members as needed.
• When necessary fills in for the Dining Room Manager
Food Service Operation
• Assists Director of Signature Dining with ordering, monitoring, and maintaining an adequate inventory of all food supplies, and kitchen and dining room small wares and equipment, to ensure efficient and effective operation of the food service program, may include executing the above duties as part of their duties or in the absence of the Director of Signature Dining

• Ensures that food is attractively presented.
• Ensures that kitchen and food storage areas are maintained in clean and sanitary condition.
• Enforces safe food handling techniques at all times with all team members.
• Routinely assists with meal preparation and cooking.
• Communicates (time permitting) with residents, families, guests, and team members, to address concerns and suggestions relating to the food service program, and to maintain resident satisfaction.
• Works in conjunction with management team in providing food for, and participating in, community special events, parties, and marketing functions.
• Assists with resident functions as directed by Director of Signature Dining
Other
• Attends all required team members meetings and in-service training sessions.
• Upholds Residents’ Rights as defined by state regulations and by Company policy, at all times.
• Supports and upholds all other Company policies, and the service philosophy.

• Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions (travel, hours, and environment):
• Must be able to work full-time, which may include breakfast/lunch or dinner shifts as well as weekend and holiday rotations.
