Applies a wide range concepts, practices, and procedures from two or more specialized fields of science, such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, or agriculture. Being a Soil Scientist may require a bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences or a related field with at least 5 years of work experience. May direct the work of a small group of employees. Additionally, Soil Scientist relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Typically reports to a senior manager and may be considered the lead for a specific area or unit.     Job Overview:

    Reporting to the manager of Research and Development, the Food Scientist operates as a key member of a cross- functional team to support the initiatives, business plan, and objectives of High Liner Foods. The Food Scientist is responsible for conceptualizing and developing new food products from gold standard through commercialization. This position plays a critical role in the creation of new products and therefore plays an important part in achieving HLF's overall strategic goals.

    Competencies:

    • Advanced knowledge of food science principles and applications.
    • Experience in product innovation life cycle.
    • Deep understanding of commercialization process, including formulation scale up, specification writing, quality management systems.
    • Expertise in Executing Line Test and First Productions.
    • Knowledge of Sensory evaluation techniques, product cuttings, cooking instruction validation development.
    • Nutritional Calculations/ Analysis when applicable.
    • Superior organizational and communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders with verbal, written and electronic modes.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field
    • Minimum 3 years of experience.
    • Seafood and Value-Added Coating Knowledge is a plus.
    • Culinary training is a plus.
    • Able to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Self- Motivated; Able to work with little supervision, eagerness to learn and grow.
    • Proficient in MS Office.

    Working conditions:

    This position is located at Portsmouth, NH. The position involves daily or frequent contact with satellite R&D groups, operations, business channel managers, sales, procurement, purchasing, regulatory, and quality assurance managers. It also involves external contact with suppliers. The position requires frequent and occasional travel, domestically and internationally. This is a hybrid Role and would require the successful applicant to be in the office 2 days a week.
