Soil Scientist jobs in Mississippi
Soil Scientist studies, investigates, and conducts experiments on different soil/plant types to determine use capabilities of soils, and effects of alternative practices on soil productivity. Applies a wide range concepts, practices, and procedures from two or more specialized fields of science, such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, or agriculture. Being a Soil Scientist may require a bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences or a related field with at least 5 years of work experience. May direct the work of a small group of employees. Additionally, Soil Scientist relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Typically reports to a senior manager and may be considered the lead for a specific area or unit. 4 Year DegreeThe National Center for Alluvial Aquifer Research (NCAAR; https://www.ncaar.msstate.edu) is inviting applications for graduate research assistantship (GRA) positions based in Stoneville, Mississippi. While pursuing a Master of Science (MS) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at Mississippi State University, assistants will conduct research in agricultural soil and water engineering/management to improve irrigation sustainability in the Lower Mississippi River Basin. Each position will provide a twice-a-month stipend and will also cover the cost of graduate tuition and health insurance. The start date of these positions is expected to be January 2025 but can be negotiated.
