    Work Location: School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences, LSU Campus, Baton Rouge LA 70803

    Position Description: Full-time 12-month, non-tenure track position with a 100% Extension appointment This position will have statewide responsibilities for developing soil fertility management practices and recommendations in multiple crops with a primary emphasis on specialty crops (vegetables, fruits, home gardens, turf, pasture, ornamentals) and a minor emphasis on field crops.

    Extension responsibilities will focus on improving the delivery of soil fertility and soil health information and crop production best management practices (BMP's) to stakeholders including, homeowners, producers, agents, crop consultants and related specialty and field crop industries in Louisiana. Critical extension programming must include development of training modules (electronic and paper materials) for county agents, information delivery to stakeholders, on-farm demonstrations of recommended practices, and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary faculty. The needs of a II industries will be addressed with personal contacts, workshops, public presentations, professional writing, electronic communications, and web-based content. Designing and improving the current soils website and maintaining current information on the site will be imperative to the success of this position.

    The incumbent will work closely with regional and departmental faculty within the AgCenter to address integrated nutrient management and production issues. The successful candidate will publish findings in extension publications and through contributions to commodity-based web sites, blogs and newsletters, annual commodity reports, and other scientific and technical outlets. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate on grant submissions for extramural support from various independent farms, industry, federal and state agencies.

    Responsibilities also will include participation in professional and technical meetings and other outreach as is necessary to inform producers, industry personnel and other research scientists of project activities and findings. This faculty member will report to Dr. David Picha, Director of the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences.

    Qualification Requirements: Minimum requirements for an Instructor is a Master's degree and minimum qualifications for an Assistant Professor is a Ph.D., preferably in soil science, agronomy, horticulture or other closely related agricultural field of study. Training in soil science and nutrient management for horticultural and/ or field crops, as well as experience in applied crop production practices is highly desirable. Applicants should have evidence of effective oral written communication and interpersonal skills for information transfer to a variety of audiences.

    Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
