Purpose of the Position
The Software Quality Assurance Tester is responsible for continuously verifying newly developed and existing features of the website meet specifications, and, more broadly, the expectations of Thorlabs’ technically oriented customer base. The person in the role is required to (a) understand stakeholders’ requirements beyond the written word, (b) gather and convey information to a worldwide user base, in one-on-one as well as group settings, (c) maintain a current understanding of the intended behaviors of each tool that customers or business users interact with, and (d) embody the role of customer advocate as customer-facing outcomes are defined.
The position is located at our headquarters in Newton, NJ, although from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.
Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:
· Produce complete, clear, and actionable feature requests, bug reproduction steps, and user stories.
· Define, carry out, and clearly document test plans and their outcomes, using screenshots, video recordings, console outputs, and other requested artifacts.
· Provide timely, actionable feedback to the development team in support of regularly scheduled feature and maintenance code deliveries.
· Identify risks, issues, and action items in test and staging environments prior to each release.
· Help ensure new specifications are met while maintaining existing functionality.
· Provide support for end-to-end, regression, and performance testing.
· Maintain familiarity with the intended appearance and behaviors of the website.
· Understand the responsibilities of internal and external site users, which include technical subject-matter experts, business process experts, and Thorlabs’ engineering, marketing, and customer-facing teams.
· Create and maintain documentation for internal site users.
· As a stakeholder, identify possible new site features, implementation details, and proof-of-value demonstrations to address customers' needs, consistent with the company's brand.
· In collaboration with the Ecommerce Project Manager, assess and prioritize requests in view of the product road map and projected business value.
