Software Engineering Director jobs in Kentucky

Responsible for coordination of daily IT functions associated with Engineering Services applications delivery, maintenance, and operations; keeping abreast of changes with the integration technologies and disseminating information to ITD staff; and collaborating with department personnel to successfully develop, maintain, and administer IT systems and applications. Serves as a Lead Worker. Leads a group of employees and coordinates the work of contractors. Reports to the IT Applications division leadership. Work requires contact with other managers, team leaders, government officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

• Ascertains business area readiness for change to new business processes and identifies appropriate implementation measures.
• Directs the preparation of precise and clear technology documents such as data architectural diagrams, flowcharts, graphs, assessments, logical work flow charts, budget impact and cost analysis, and summaries and presents to TxDOT executives and ITD management.
• Analyzes existing system procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.
• Develops performance measures that align with strategic goals.
  Works with development, integration, testing and enhancement teams on IT system maintenance and enhancements.
• Oversees and monitors contractor work to ensure compliance with established deadlines and objectives.
• Oversees and participates in evaluating existing and proposed modifications to verify business and system requirements, and equipment configurations.
• Provides roadmaps for platform upgrades that affect existing applications.
• Serves as a lead worker to TxDOT employees by serving as a resource for complex questions and providing technical training; providing input on employees’ career conversations; approving employees’ leave requests to ensure operations coverage; and presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related discipline.

Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree on a year-per-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

5 years of experience in applications development or application systems support, including facilitating the system development life cycle or related work experience.

(Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate-level education may be substituted for experience on a year-per-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with large enterprise IT projects

• System Testing Life Cycle (STLC) per QA industry standards

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
