DSHS WSH BHA Psychiatric Social Worker 3
In this role, you will be assigned to the DSHS Behavioral Health and Treatment Centers-Steilacoom Unit Competency Restoration Program (SCRP) (Download PDF reader), Behavioral Health Administration (BHA). This position reports to a Psychologist 4 and is responsible for providing professional and specialized social work services to the residents at Steilacoom Unit. You'll provide professional application of social values, principles, and techniques in working with residents who have a serious mental health disorder and/or co-occurring disorders, and have misdemeanor and/or felony charges as a result of alleged criminal behavior.
Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
Some of what you'll do:

As a member of the Steilacoom Competency Restoration Program, provide competency restoration services via individual clinical/therapeutic meetings with residents admitted to SCRP for treatment following a finding of incompetency in a criminal proceeding. Clinical/therapeutic services are geared toward regaining competency.

Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team; coordinate visitation, to include conducting the initial screening for all potential visitors; coordinate interpreters/interpretive services for residents.

Work with residents on discharge planning, to include providing residents information on community-based mental health services.

Complete Psychosocial Assessments for all residents assigned to caseload; complete required facility forms with residents on caseload; complete documentation notes on clinical interventions and treatment team meetings; complete documentation on other significant information, as needed.
Provide psychoeducation to families and support systems as allowed by the RTF policies and HIPAA guidelines

We are looking for professionals who demonstrate:

In-depth understanding of the principles, practices, and techniques of social work.

Understanding of principles and characteristics of most major behavioral health disorders.

Knowledge of recovery principles.

Ability to work with difficult or angry residents in a therapeutic, non-threatening manner.

Experience in intervening and de-escalating crises/dangerous situations.

Knowledge of BHA, RTF, state, and federal regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.

Demonstrates principles of universal infection control precautions and practices.

Ability to work as a team member to resolve personal conflicts in a calm, non-threatening manner.
Must be able to communicate effectively with management, peers, residents, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position.

Special requirement and/or Conditions of Employment:
-
Experience in the provision of direct therapeutic interventions to individuals with a serious mental health disorder/co-occurring disorder diagnosis.

Experience working within an interdisciplinary treatment team as well as experience working with a wide array of community social service agencies

Comply with all BHA, RTF, state, and federal regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.

Must be able to effectively communicate with management, peers, clients, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position.
Must be able to obtain and maintain at minimum a Counselor Agency Affiliated Registration credential through the Washington State Department of Health

Who should apply?

A Master’s degree from an approved social of Social Work (Must be from an educational program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education)

Two (2) years of experience providing social work/therapeutic services to individuals with behavioral health disorders.
