    LSSI is hiring afull-timeCommunications Specialist. The Communications Specialist develops and implements LSSI's social media presence; coordinates and creates content for external and internal communications (web, intranet, videos, newsletters, fundraising appeals, brochures, flyers, etc.); and supports the broader communications and advancement team.

    Essential Functions:
    • Create content and manage social media presence across several sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter). Administer the creation of relevant, original content, and plan timely campaigns to raise awareness and generate interest for LSSI programs and the organization overall; provide input on expanding social media presence to other platforms.
    • Oversee social media marketing campaigns and day-to-day activities including monitor, listen, and respond to users; develop and expand community outreach efforts with social media ambassadors; analyze and share data about platform metrics/growth, and identify most successful types of content/posts.
    • Oversee all aspects of assigned LSSI communications projects, including writing and collaborating with program staff, clients, and donors. Develop and execute brief video content for use on social media.
    • Supports the Sr. Director and Director of Communications by developing stories/content and with special projects; develops relationships with program staff; produces photos, videos, and graphics.
    • Assist with special events and fundraising initiatives as needed.
    Position Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, or communications/digital communications and a minimum of 3 years of related work experience, preferably in a nonprofit communications role or a high school diploma (or equivalent) and a minimum of six (6) years of related work experience, preferably in a nonprofit communications role, required.
    • Social media experience essential.
    • A passion for storytelling with strong writing and reporting skills (curiosity, accuracy, attention to detail, and a proven ability to write for a variety of media and audiences using different voices).

    • Excellent pc/computer skills (including proficiency with Microsoft 360 - Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams) along with other related software. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Canva preferred, experience with project management software helpful.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills; a zeal for interviewing and forging relationships; and a commitment to compelling storytelling.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage projects from conception through completion, collaborating with program staff, graphic designers, printers, photographers, and videographers.
    • Ability to create and manage content with minimal direction under deadline constraints.
    • Self-directed with the ability to work as part of a team.
    • Valid IL statutory minimum liability coverage, bodily injury, and property damage.
    • Valid State of Illinois driver's license and reliable transportation.
