The Chemistry Department seeks a Shipping & Receiving Specialist. The primary function of this position is retrieving packages from loading docks (Chemistry and Physics) and delivering all packages to chemistry laboratories and administrative offices. The Shipping & Receiving Specialist is also responsible for unloading and shelving daily deliveries, which include solvents, chemicals, glassware, and various office and laboratory supplies, in the stockroom. The position oversees mail room operatios, coordinates with shipping and receiving staff in the Physics Department, acts as a backup for E-Shipping coordinator, creates purchase orders through Prime, and asssists facilities staff with moving heavy items as needed. Other light administrative duties may be assigned.
Receiving and Distribution: Deliver all packages to individual labs and offices. Remain current on dry ice training and safety procedures in order to deliver dry ice to designated stations, ensure that they are always filled, and keep record of delivered quantities. Coordinate with shipping and receiving staff in the Physics Department, where shared loading dock is located.
Stockroom Operations: Unload, breakdown, organize, and shelve daily deliveries in stockroom, which contain pallets of solvents, chemicals, glassware, and various office and laboratory supplies. Assist Facilities Staff with minor facilities functions, like moving furniture, boxes and heavy items. Assist with the management of the online inventory system, including labeling and data entry for new supplies and purchases. Participate in annual inventory review.
Mail Room Operations: Oversee management of department mail room. Receive and sort daily mail deliveries. Update mail slots as needed with input from Graduate Program Coordinator, Undergraduate Program Administrator, and Administrative Services Manager. Notify department members of special package deliveries. Order and stock paper, mail, and coffee supplies. Handle maintenance requests for two departmental copier machines. Occasionally assist administrative staff with copiers.
Shipping and Other Duties: Act as a back up for EShipping system. Remain up to date on relevant system trainings. Respond to email requests for shipping labels. Collect charstrings for shipping requests and reconcile expenses in concur. Other duties as assigned.
