Job Summary

A Shipping/Receiving Coordinator oversees and keeps records of all shipping and receiving. More specifically, they are responsible for organizing, sorting, and transferring goods from one location to another. They monitor company packages from the start to finish, ensuring proper packing techniques and shipping practices. Shipping Clerks also update inventory records and compile weekly or monthly reports for the management. The role of a Shipping/Receiving Coordinator also extends to taking care of customer requests and complaints.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment: Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
• Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
• Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
• Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
• Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
• Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape, using strapping machine.
• Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
• Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
• Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
• Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
• Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
• Transports and loads materials, supplies, and finished goods (manually and/or using powered trucks) to fill stocking locations, and assembly storage locations.
• Collects and properly disposes of scrap bracing, cardboard, and strapping; maintains a safe and clean work environment.
• Operate lift truck or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping-and-receiving platform to storage or work area.
• May direct others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.
• May receive damaged or defective goods returned to establishment and be designated Returned-Goods Receiving Clerk.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must have strong telephone communication skills and etiquette.
• Must be able to work well with others and assist the public cooperatively and courteously.
• Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
• Must be able to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption.
• Must have knowledge of English, including proper use of grammar, punctuation, spelling and style.
• Competency with computers and Microsoft Excel preferred.
• Must be able to operate standard office machines.
• Must be able to work independently and carry out assignments to completion with minimum instruction and adhere to established routines and practices.
• Must have an excellent work ethic and superior attendance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
