Shipping and Receiving Clerk assembles orders and prepares goods for shipment. Receives, unpacks, inspects and stores incoming materials and supplies. Being a Shipping and Receiving Clerk uses shipping records to verify the accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments and orders. Documents damages and discrepancies for future reimbursement and reconciliation. Additionally, Shipping and Receiving Clerk typically requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to supervisor. The Shipping and Receiving Clerk possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Primary Responsibilities:
Verifies, maintains, and routes records of incoming and outgoing shipments
Compares identifying information and counts, weights, or measures items of incoming or outgoing shipments to verify shipments against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Report discrepancies to carrier and to purchasing office.
Unloads trucks, checks and counts all items, and inspects for damage.
Determines methods of shipments. Utilizes knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
Prepares items for shipment
Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons and crates.
Prepares bills of lading for each shipment and checks and records all items loaded for shipment.
Posts shipments to customer orders. Upon completion of shipment, forwards document to production planning and accounting departments.
Notifies supervisor or planning department when major discrepancies occur, over-shipments or substitutions have been made.
Receive-in damaged or returned goods.
Assist production in materials movement as needed.
Pick material to jobs.
Verifies inventory of items and parts.
Participates in annual physical inventory.
Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
Basic knowledge of shipping operations and the ability to apply shipping/receiving methods.
Knowledge of inventory systems and the ability to maintain a cost-effective inventory.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing within the department and other areas of the Company as necessary.
Ability to interpret and work from oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Ability to legibly document data for record keeping purposes.
Excellent communication skills in effectively working with co-workers.
Ability to remain calm and professional during peak periods of activity.
Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/duties simultaneously.
Ability to work extended hours as required.
Ability to assist in other work-related areas as required.
