Shipping Specialist jobs in Virginia

$15 - $18/hour, depending on experience

This position requires the individual to assist in the team efforts of a busy Quality Fulfillment Services department. The successful candidate must demonstrate attention to detail as well as organizational skills. Team and individual metrics are based in the endeavor to eliminate all errors from leaving the building.

Description

A national manufacturing and software company located in the Virginia Beach area is seeking dependable individuals eager to build a career in a fast paced and friendly team-oriented environment. Exceptional attention to detail, organizational and time management skills are a must.

Duties

• Read sales orders or access internal data stores to determine material or setup requirements per job.
• Review completed sales orders and ensure all items are included in order.
• Ensure all shipments receive the proper labeling and postal charges and are packaged to arrive safely.
• Use UPS WorldShip and DesktopShipper to prepare labels for certain outgoing shipments.
• Assist in researching UPS issues, file claims, and monitor through completion.
• Maintain excellent working relationships with UPS representatives and delivery drivers.
• Monitor Scheduler to ensure orders leave the building by their due date.
• Assist other departments with shipping proposals, samples and any other shipments as requested.
• Create, monitor and release electronic messages to clients and individuals.
• Keep management aware of potential or actual data/materials issues and/or product shortage.
• Organize all paperwork and deliver when and where appropriate.
• Update/create Standard Operating Procedures when new information becomes available.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Reliable and dependable transportation for timely work attendance required.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Basic computer skills required.
• Previous shipping and freight experience preferred.
• Experience with UPS WorldShip and/or DesktopShipper preferred.
• Physically able to push/pull/lift/carry supplies and various works in progress of at least 35-50 pounds.
• Physically able to bend/kneel/walk/stand, in tandem with cart, stepstools or rolling ladders, to access supplies and various works in progress or other materials as needed in storage rooms or production areas.

• Ability to maintain focus and concentration for long periods of time on computer- (seated) or machine-related (standing) tasks
• Ability to maintain routine and predictability in dynamic and open-office environment
• Ability to prioritize, accomplish goals within set timeframes, and maintain required metrics as per job specifications
• Ability to work in concert with a team or independently, with or without direct supervision/guidance as needed
• Ability to self-manage and multi-task while making fact-based or historically valid and justifiable decisions
• Ability to assist, support, or work in close and harmonious relationship with all inter- and intra-departmental personnel as needed or requested
• Good vision, with or without corrective lenses, to sustain adequate visual focus over a period of time
• Ability to consistently comply with established procedures, rules, and regulations
• Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area as per company and/or OSHA Standards

Compensation and Benefits

• Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm with mandatory weekday or weekend overtime as needed
