Shipping Specialist jobs in District of Columbia
Shipping Specialist prepares shipping documentation and processes orders. Coordinates the preparation and organization of bills of lading, packing slips, invoices, and required export licenses or compliance documents. Being a Shipping Specialist utilizes enterprise resource planning (ERP) or other systems to record and track all shipping transactions. Troubleshoots shipping delays or changes with carriers and communicates to customers. Additionally, Shipping Specialist ensures shipping protocols and documentation meet required regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (DOT/HAZMAT) or special handling. Investigates and resolves shipping non-conformance. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Shipping Specialist works under moderate supervision. We are hiring a Shipping Manager to support a NAVSEA program for Ship Integrity and Performance Engineering based in Washington, DC in a hybrid capacity.
What will you do?- Manages shipping operations' daily activities, including order processing, inventory tracking, documentation, and transportation oversight.
- Utilizes enterprise resource planning (ERP) or other systems to record and track all shipping transactions, analyze performance metrics, and generate reports.
- Ensures shipping protocols and documentation meet required regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (DOT/HAZMAT) or special handling.
- Investigates and resolves shipping quality issues, damages, or lost freight claims. Additionally, develops and maintains relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and vendors.
- Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
- Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
Do you have what it takes?- At least 5 years of experience and Bachelor's Degree in the field/related area.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
- Must be a US Citizen.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
