Description
The Shipping Manager plays a pivotal role in the development and continuous transformation of our production environment to best meet the demands of our customers. This role helps lead the charge in maintaining Construction Forms’ position as the industry leader for our diverse customer base. Within the shipping area, this role ensures the production of our industry-leading products at the highest quality while maintaining reasonable costs. The Shipping Manager sets the tone for workplace safety and the overall engagement of shipping employees for peak performance. This role works cross functionally and motivates the shipping team to perform at the highest level while maintaining safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Responsible for day-to-day leadership and continuous improvement deployment within shipping, being an innovator of positive change that favorably impacts safety, quality, on-time delivery, profitability, inventory turns, lead-time, customer satisfaction, and team morale.
- Lead and supervise shipping, and work closely with quality, production control, purchasing, sales, engineering, suppliers, and customers to meet or exceed customer needs and to achieve company goals. Use of CRM (Salesforce) as a method to increase communication.
- Work with the Supply Chain Manager to maintain optimal inventory levels of assigned shipping materials.
- Assure that capacity levels (people, shifts, equipment, etc.) are maintained to match demand in the short term and long term.
- Negotiate contracts to maximize Con Forms and customers logistics value (cost/defects/time).
- Lead the Continuous Improvement effort for shipping and expediting, using tools such as Team Improvement Boards (TIB’s), C/I action teams, 5S, auditing and layered auditing, etc. Support packaging changes and methods.
- Analyze problems, account for variances, drive for root cause and implement improved methods and procedures; create, review and update improvement plans, at a minimum, monthly. This includes defect resolution (RMA/NCMR) and transaction resolution of negative on-hand in cooperation with Inventory Manager.
- Ensure appropriate equipment is provided, adequately maintained, and safely operated.
- Develop key employees, participate in company dialogues regarding employee performance to assure that deserving employees are recognized and that under-performing employees are given the direction required to improve their performance.
- Train and cross train assigned team members and maintain the Training Matrix for assigned team members.
- Arrange international shipments and coordinate receipts as necessary.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of one year lead or formal leadership experience in a manufacturing production environment.
- Proven skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees across all functions of the organization.
- Ability to effectively organize an area of responsibility, delegate appropriate authority and review the work performance of direct reports conductive to efficient performance and high morale.
- Basic computer skills required to accurately gather and input data from various computer systems required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems preferred.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Exposure to noise, sparks, smoke, fumes, and heat in a production environment.
- Perform work standing on concrete for up to 12 hours per day. Also, frequent use of computer requiring the ability to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to gather and input job information from various software packages. Regularly required to sit, bend, stoop, and grab.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, job orders, dispatch lists, maintenance instructions or procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate effectively with leadership, peers, subordinates, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Perform precise measurements using a tape measure, caliper, square and/or weld gages.
- Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
