Ship Engineer repairs and maintains gasoline and diesel engines in boats, such as yachts, tugs, and trawlers, following specifications. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field. Being a Ship Engineer is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Additionally, Ship Engineer performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Job Location: Norfolk, VA
Hutco Branch: Portsmouth, VA
Rate of Pay: $23.00 to 27.00 per hour ( per diem available for those who qualify)
DESCRIPTION:
We are currently looking for good shipfitters who have 2 to 3 years’ experience in the shipyard. You have to be prompt and have reliable transportation. You must be knowledgeable in layouts or plates, pipes, and structural shapes, including flat layouts and complex layouts involving projection and compound angles.
