Ship Engineer repairs and maintains gasoline and diesel engines in boats, such as yachts, tugs, and trawlers, following specifications. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field. Being a Ship Engineer is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Are you ready to take the challenge and explore the possibilities for a future in shipbuilding? Come take part in Electric Boat's paid SHIP Summer High School Intern Program! For eight weeks, you will work under the guidance of a trained mentor and have the opportunity to observe, and participate in, the varied manufacturing processes used to build one of the world's most sophisticated military vehicles. While working side by side with experienced employees in their assigned trades department (Machine Trades, Electrical, Pipefitting, or Welding) you will gain valuable skills and knowledge on the shipbuilding methods and tools used in Electric Boat Operations.
