Ship Engineer repairs and maintains gasoline and diesel engines in boats, such as yachts, tugs, and trawlers, following specifications. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field. Being a Ship Engineer is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Additionally, Ship Engineer performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.     The Engineer reports directly to the Chief Engineer and is responsible for the following: 

    • Performing maintenance and repairs to facility 
    • Execute preventative maintenance
    • Weather-proofing
    • Basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance
    • Follow all safety and security policies and procedures
    • Welcome all guests accordingly, anticipate and address guest service needs
    • Must have valid driver’s license
    • Must be available for emergency calls at hotel during off duty hours
    • Must be organized with inventory and documentation
    • Perform other job duties as requested

     

    Special Requirements

    • Prompt and regular attendance - the hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
    • Department schedules must accommodate fluctuating business demands and associates may be asked to work shifts other than those they prefer or normally work, and overtime as required
    • Minimum availability of 16 hours per week for part-time employees
    • Comply with hotel and/or department uniform and professional behavior and appearance standards
    • Carry out all reasonable requests by team leaders and managers and act as a team player with all levels of staff
    • Review and approve electronic timecard weekly for accuracy

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.  May be exposed to cleaning chemicals.

    Requirements

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge and experience in all facets of building maintenance
    • Understand and operate electrical, plumbing & refrigeration
    • Knowledge and experience in working with HVAC
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent guest service skills
    • Must be organized and have good attention to details
    • Read and understand test equipment and measuring devices


    Education, Credentials, Certification, and/or Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • At least 1 year of Hospitality Maintenance preferred
    • Obtain a Class E License to operate hotel shuttle

    Must be willing to complete drug screen and background check in accordance with federal and state laws
