Central State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Chief of Staff to serve as a key member of the President’s Leadership Team and assist the President in planning and executing a wide range of complex executive and administrative duties related to policy development, academic, fiscal, and administrative programs as well as represent the President to senior administration, the campus community, and the community at large. The incumbent will be an individual possessing a commitment to integrity and an ability to effectively support the President on a wide range of programs and issues.
Key Activities Include:
- Identify strategic opportunities for the university; develop and implement key initiatives and priorities.
- Serve as chief liaison for the President with internal and external constituents; support Presidential advisory boards and committees.
- Partner with the leadership team and other stakeholders to advance key projects and initiatives covering a broad range of areas.
- Ensure implementation of programs developed and initiated by the President to their successful completion.
- Conduct research, evaluate and provide information and recommendations to the President on a range of university initiatives.
- Support the President in managing an effective senior leadership team and strengthening the University.
- Build an atmosphere of coordination and clear understanding of the University’s mission, vision, initiatives, and goals.
- Manage the many and diverse requests and requirements of the Office of the President, including responding to students, faculty and staff, visitors.
- Oversee mandatory reports of the Office of the President and external agencies, ensuring deadlines are met, review and edit documents and correspondence.
- Compose correspondence and speeches for the President; ensure accurate, proper, and timely flow of information to and from the Office of the President
- Advise the President on day-to-day operations, ensure efficiency and effectiveness, and optimize resources, including the management of the budget for the Office of the President.
- Build and nurture relationships to serve as a resource for the President and act as point of contact as designated for key constituents to resolve complex issues.
- Provide administrative oversight and staff supervision for the Office of the President.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience that includes the administration of a high-level upper management leadership position including administrative, governance, budget, policies, programs, and initiatives.
- Strong work ethic, personal integrity, excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and planning skills
- Demonstrated organizational, management, leadership and critical thinking skill.
- Ability to thrive in an environment that requires strategic thought and tactical execution.
- Ability to supervise, direct and evaluate staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral or terminal degree
- Experience in a higher education environment
