Follows blueprints, rough sketches, or engineer drawings to shape metal accurately. Being a Sheetmetal Mechanic uses hand and power tools to shape, cut, and smooth metal and to blend seams. May set up and operate soldering and welding equipment. Additionally, Sheetmetal Mechanic typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires a Sheetmetal Apprenticeship. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Sheetmetal Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     The Opportunity
    WSDOT is currently seeking a Sheet Metal Worker to perform sheet metal work, welding, rigging, and ventilation system maintenance in accordance with state and US Coast Guard requirements.

    What to Expect

    Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Sheet Metal Worker will:


    • Fabricate, Install, and repair galvanized metal and corrugated roofing, flashing, gutters, downspouts, metallic mesh enclosures, restroom partitions, storage lockers, sheet metal pipe wrap motor covers, and various brackets.
    • Perform general repair and fabrication.
    • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine the sequence and methods of fabrication, assembly, and installation of sheet metal products.
    • Perform minor gas, heli-arc, and electric welding.

    Qualifications
    To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
    • Journey-level skilled trades experience related to sheet metal fabrication.
    • Current State-issued driver’s license.
    • Ability to work emergency after-hours callouts and overtime.
    • Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) within 90 days of employment.
