Follows blueprints, rough sketches, or engineer drawings to shape metal accurately. Being a Sheetmetal Mechanic uses hand and power tools to shape, cut, and smooth metal and to blend seams. May set up and operate soldering and welding equipment. Additionally, Sheetmetal Mechanic typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires a Sheetmetal Apprenticeship. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Sheetmetal Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. - Select appropriate tooling and adjust machine settings to achieve desired results.
- Monitor machine operation to ensure quality and accuracy of bends.
- Inspect finished parts for defects and make necessary adjustments.
- Collaborate with team members to assemble fabricated parts as needed.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers to verify dimensions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.
- Perform routine maintenance on press brake machines.
Experience:
- 7 to 10 years experience operating press brake machines in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques and processes.
- Proficient in blueprint reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments to ensure accuracy of finished parts.
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high quality standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machine issues.
