Sheetmetal Mechanic sets up and operates machines such as drill presses, punch presses, saws, shears, bending rolls, brakes, grinders, and numerical control equipment to shape and alter sheetmetal according to specifications. Follows blueprints, rough sketches, or engineer drawings to shape metal accurately. Being a Sheetmetal Mechanic uses hand and power tools to shape, cut, and smooth metal and to blend seams. May set up and operate soldering and welding equipment. Additionally, Sheetmetal Mechanic typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires a Sheetmetal Apprenticeship. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Sheetmetal Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Sheetmetal Mechanic Responsibilities:
- Interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability.
- Complete work assignments using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, shipyard procedures and shop machinery.
- The layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of all light gage metalwork which includes air-conditioned ductwork, lockers, cabinets, prefabricated bulkheads, doors, furniture and formica
- Performing joiner work, fabricate nonstructural bulkhead doors and stainless steel trim
- Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Available to work all shifts
- Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
- Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
Preferred:
- Sheetmetal/metal fabrication experience and/or sheetmetal training
- Experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment
- Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
- Military/Navy experience
- Automotive/auto body or HVAC experience
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative team environment and meet organizational goals
