Security Manager implements security strategy, policies, and standards to ensure the physical safety of all visitors, employees, or customers to the organization's facilities and the security of property and assets. Conducts regular audits and inspections to assess, identify, and mitigate any security vulnerabilities or gaps. Being a Security Manager trains staff and establishes operational plans for crisis response, disaster recovery, evacuation, workplace violence, and other emergency events. Monitors and inspects systems, alarms, and other physical security measures. Additionally, Security Manager participates in education programs and contributes to communications on security policies and topics to ensure staff is adequately informed and equipped to manage potential security issues. Engages with local, state, provincial, or federal authorities to keep abreast with all security-related information, directives, and events. Initiates or assists with investigations and critical event responses in coordination with law enforcement and other officials or agencies. Understands law enforcement methods, tactics, and procedures. Requires a bachelor's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or related discipline. Typically reports to a director. The Security Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Security Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Job Summary

    Manages and ensures the timely completion of discrete technical or operational projects; establishes technical requirements for the project; defines project deliverables, budgets, and schedules; and oversees the project team in the planning, tracking, and execution of the project from initiation to completion.

    Projects are a set of related activities needed to produce specific products or services to meet customers’ requirements. Projects develop work packages that define what will be accomplished to meet specific programmatic needs and produce the work products defined by the work packages. Projects are finite, with a definite beginning, middle, and end. The customer may be an external body, such as a federal agency, or may be an internal organization within the Laboratory. Projects are typically a subset of, and funded by, a Laboratory program, but (rarely) may be stand-alone and separately funded.

    What You Need:

    Educational Requirements:

    Position typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  An advanced degree and a Project Management Institute certification is desired for this function and level.

    Other Requirements:

    • DOE experience
    • Category 2 nuclear facility experience.
    • Expert-level knowledge of and consultative experience in all aspects of project management of technical or operational work, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing to scope, schedule, budget, and technical baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.
    • Expert-level knowledge of the technical or operational discipline of the assigned project.
    • Expert-level knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to the assigned project.
    • Consultative experience in developing and nurturing effective high-level internal and/or external customer relationships.
    • Proven ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor a wide variety of team efforts to completion.
    • Proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
    • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to qualify for and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

    This position requires a Q clearance, which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

    *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

    New‐Employment Drug Test:

    The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new‐employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
