Security Guard - Unarmed provides security and guards buildings, grounds, materials, work sites, or other venues. Monitors security systems and responds to alarms, reports of issues, or requests for assistance. Being a Security Guard - Unarmed patrols an assigned location. Follows required gate-keeping procedures such as verifying visitor credentials, conducting inspections, or preparing paperwork. Additionally, Security Guard - Unarmed may operate an access control or identity system to control building access. Completes shift activity logs and inputs to systems. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. May require a Security Guard License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Security Guard - Unarmed works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Provides security services to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
· Ensure only authorized staff are admitted onto hospital premises.
· Performs proactive monitoring of and timely responses to potential/actual security threats.
· Investigates and manages all security incidents and hazards on the premises.
· Maintains knowledge of and follows policies and procedures regarding alarms and emergency/disaster preparedness plans.
· Facilitates planned drills and simulations.
· Provides information and assistance to patients, visitors and staff to promote their safety on the premises.
· Provides a visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling the buildings and grounds of the hospital.
· Writes accurate, clear and legible incident reports and documents investigatory steps and results.
· Patrol parking areas to detect any irregularities.
· Able to accurately, clearly and legibly document incident reports, investigatory steps and results; Documentation meets current standards and policies.
· Performs other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practice.
Education:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent, is preferred

Certification in Non-Violent De-Escalation & Crisis Intervention Training, required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
· Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work.
· Able to maintain a high awareness of teamwork.

· Able to respond to and cope with emergency situations professionally and calmly.
· Focused, patient and calm, performing well under pressure in a stressful environment and able to take appropriate action.

· Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.
One to three (1-3) years’ experience in the field of law enforcement and/or security management; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
